Yesterday, my mom and I decided to kill some time and went into some thrift shops. We went into Goodwill for all of five minutes before the smell of impending death and hospital sanitizer got the best of us. As we were driving off, we saw this Habitat for Humanity sign and went in. Lo and behold, the Habitat for Humanity ReStore was everythinggggg. It is definitely a thrifter, DIY, or builders dream! They have furniture, pictures, VHS movies (yes hunty), books, cabinets, wood, vinyl, tile, sinks, and practically anything you could ever want. And for the low!
I always felt some sort of way when it came to thrifted items, but everything here seemed to be in decent shape. If there was a flaw, it was nothing that a good DIY project couldn’t solve. But when I first came in the store, I saw something that caught my eye. It was a picture of an assortment of flowers with each flower named at the bottom. Also, towards the bottom in the center was the word “May”. I instantly knew I was taking this home. When my mom came in, I showed her the photo and she said “Your grandmother has the same photo.” Like 2009 Chris Brown, it hit me! She sure does! In her formal living room, she has all of the pictures of each family member’s birth month. With a familial connection, I was even more driven to take this photo home.
While in there, we also ran into this couple that loves thrifting and decorating their home. The wife was telling me how they renovated their home, then moved into a new one, so they gave that house to their 26 year old daughter. She pulled out her phone to show me the different upgrades she made to the house and it was just comforting to see someone else that was passionate about decorating their home. Then to find out that she used to be an interior decorator so whadyaknow. We exchanged numbers and she told me she’d keep her eye out for any good deals. Sometimes, moments as small as that, I feel are acts of God. I don’t know, I can’t explain it.
My maid service I purchased off of Groupon will be here on Wednesday. Soon, I will have cleaner baseboards and a neater home (not saying it’s not neat now, but it’ll finally feel as clean as it should be). Then, I will be able to start purchasing paints, hanging up pictures and art, and start making this place feel like a home! :)
Well, it’s almost my “bed-time” so I’ll dip it low. Until next time!
